the MPS 2 and its four outputs
« on: 4 Apr 2013, 06:05 pm »
hi, James!

the BP 26 and the BP 1.5 need the MPS 2 for sure. but are there any plans by Bryston to offer any kind of gear that would need any of the two left power supply outputs???

is the BHA-1 still available with the outboard power supply option, btw...?

Hi,

Yes the 10B Electric Crossover can be used as well as the BHA-1 headphone amp.

Hi James,

How about a DAC which can utilize the other power supply outputs of the mps2?

Hi

With the DAC we have two independent power supplies and ground planes - one for the digital section and one for the analog section so feeding it from a single outboard supply would not perform as well.

got it James, thanks for the quick reply

hopefully in the future, Bryston will still consider coming out with other audio gears that utilizes the remaining power supply outputs.

Hi

It will depend on the type of product and power supply needed but when we offered the headphone amp that way I realized how restrictive it made the product.  :duh:

It is indeed strange that in most cases only 1 output of the mps2 is used. The other three have no use, ... except is we could put them in parallel to have a bigger power reserve.

Yes maybe we should start building them with just the single output to avoid the confusion it seems to create.  There are not many products we build these days that are not both analog and digital circuits combined or require totally different voltages and current on each section where independent power supplies work much better.

James how about a Tuner that will use the power of the MPS2

Hi Robert

Given streaming and the products available I do  not see what Bryston could offer other than a cosmetic match?

I was thinking  of a FM tuner with just a digital out, to connect to a BDA1/2. A/D conversion  can be done just behind the IF-stage, which gives the possibility of digital signal processing to get better reception, separation, etc,...
But as already mentioned in an other post, it would be nice to have better internetradio support on the BDP1/2,...

...what if the MPS-2 will be offered with only one (or more on special order) output(s) and then the box inside is separated to have some space for hdd which then could be used with the BDP ??
