Geddes Abbey's in Denver Area - Sold!
« on: 29 Mar 2013, 03:44 pm »
I didn't think I'd ever say this, but I'm looking to sell my much loved pair of GedLee Abbey's. This is an early pair built from a kit at the beginning of 2009. I added extensive oak stiffeners to the cabinet and lined them with NoRez from GR Research. Premium Jantzen Z-Superior and Mundorf Silver/Gold/Oil caps, Mills resistors and Erse 12GA FoilQ inductor for the woofer. WBT Nexgen binding posts. Woofers are mounted with 10-24 bolts and T-Nuts, no cheesy wood screws.

Stands shown in photos are included, they were built specifically for this purpose. Stands are 1 1/2" maple butcher block with 4" diameter ABS riser, sand filled.

These speakers function perfectly, no buzzes, rattles or any other problems. ~95dB sensitivity and if you are looking at these you are probably already aware that sub woofers are nearly mandatory, they simply don't play very low but are incredible in the regions they cover.

I'm not sure what to ask for these, a new pair is $6,000 and it takes a LONG time to get them from Dr. Geddes. However, these were built from a kit but the cabinet is much stiffer than stock and I used premium parts on all series elements of the XO. I'm asking $3,000 with the stands and if the buyer pays asking price I will include a pair of Analysis Plus Oval 9 speaker cables. Quite a few AC members have heard this pair and can attest to their sound.

This is a local sale as I don't have time to build shipping crates and get them to a carrier. If someone outside of the Denver CO area really wants them, you would have to arrange pickup and shipping.

The answer to the inevitable question - I'm selling them to help fund a new project, building a dedicated shop space.

Edit: FWIW, I am willing to trade for construction work. I will need some electrical, drywall and paint done on the new shop, so if that is your gig and you want a pair of killer speakers, let me know.

The smallest amp I tried them with was a 2A3 SET, about 2W if I recall. They did OK but really needed a bit more than that.

I'm open to trades if you happen to be an electrician, drywall guy or painter.  :thumb:

Bump for a great guy and great speakers.  If anyone is interested in controlled directivity then these are the real deal!
