Obligatory first post
« on: 28 Mar 2013, 12:41 pm »
I discovered this site while searching for ways in which people have been using the Ikea Expedit shelves as vinyl storage and it looked like a useful resource. I would not consider myself an audiophile but I've been a music obsessive/collector for nearly forty years.

I'm very happy that vinyl is making a comeback, so one of the reasons I joined here is to share information about turntables, vinyl collecting, et cetera.

Cheers!

You know, I don't really pay that much attention to the value of vinyl in that sense. When I say I collect it, what I really mean is that I buy a lot of records and then listen to them.

If you need an IKEA cabinet- I have one, btw- you have a lot of records.  Stick around here and you'll have a lot more from quality sources.  Next thing you know, you'll be upgrading your table.

Welcome! We're super glad to have you.

And expedit stuff makes wonderful LP storage material. I have two 4x2 units myself.

Three Expedits in my room right now. Problem is, the design lets you buy more and more Expedits. Which means more and more records.

Welcome jimbach.

I have 3 4x2 Expedits, they work fine for vinyl storage.

Why don't you describe your equipment and your listening habits, and WE'LL tell you of you're an audiophile or not  :D

My equipment is pretty basic. In my music room I have an old Technics SL-Q202 turntable I've had for decades, a Pioneer SX-550 receiver (low wattage but it's fine since the room is small) an old Philips DVD player I use for CDs, and a pair of Baby Advent II speakers.

My listening tastes are pretty broad, but can be grouped, chronologically, along the lines of late-'50s/early-'60s hard bop, mid-to-late '60s psychedelic pop, '70s punk and '80s new wave, and more contemporary alt-rock. And Sinatra.

I am coming back to vinyl and Thinking of how to include best practices to store vinyls. What type of cabinet / box should be best.
