Upsampling CD players: Do they really sound better?

Do upsampling CD players really sound better than the regular CD players?  I don't notice any significant difference with my Cambridge 740C.

No I don't think so  I guess I need some input here too. I never thought upsampling a file could improve the native file. Maybe some one can chime in here who knows more..

As in EVERYTHING else in this hobby, ya pays your money and ya takes ya chances.  :thumb:

The only real answer is, as you obviously have done, try it and see. It doesn't matter what everyone else is hearing, it only matters what you are hearing, or not hearing.

There's a saying in digital photography that I like to apply to everything:

There's no such thing as black or white, only shades of grey.  :thumb:

It so depends on the dac that is being used to begin with - ive heard non upsampling players sound wonderful and upsampling players sound horrible

and vice - versa.  this question is a can of worms waiting to happen

They just sound different. Some people are into it, others are not.

Same can be said for DACs,  cables, tubes, etc.  certainly most can hear the difference between mp3s at 128 vs 320kbs.   Not too sure if there is a noticeable difference to my ear between 96 and 192khz upconversion.  My dog on the other might appreciate the difference.

My Shanling CD-T100 has upsampling capabilities and in a word no, I don't prefer it.
