Why need enclosure for FR system
« on: 24 Mar 2013, 05:50 pm »
This might be a stupid question but from my limited understanding the enclosure and volume all become relevant when we try to achieve bass response from a Full range speaker. So we try to bring the resonant frequency down to 50-60 Hz using volume of boxes and ports. If we plan to use a subwoofer which cross over at 100 along with full range do we need an enclosure for a Full range at all? In that way I assume the driver can work well with high and mid frequencies and reduce distortion to the lowest.

It is possible to do without the box, although that brings a different set of design considerations into play. See the Open Baffle Circle ;)

Thank you John. I guess that would be a different design called open Baffle system then. Thank you for acknowledging me.
