Looking for a new DAC
« on: 21 Mar 2013, 05:37 pm »
Hello,

I think upgrading my HEGEL HD2 dac.

This decision came after I heard today Ciaudio VDA-2 + VAC-1, when the HEGEL HD-2 was used to transport the computer.

Sound upgrade was a significant leap forward in all parameters of sound!

How is the DB Audio Labs Tranquility Dac?

I am looking for a converter with superb USB input that will give substantial step forward in sound.

The maximum budget is 1500 dollars.

How is the DB Audio Labs Tranquility Dac?

I have the Tranquility SE, and it is terrific. One of the major differences that I noticed compared to my PS Audio DAC III was the Tranquility's correct presentation of acoustic guitar. The Tranquility doesn't smear or make hash of the subtleties of harmonic overtones. As I've upgraded my amp and speakers I've never failed to hear more of the good sound that the Tranquility is feeding into the system. Tone, detail, bass, soundstage, dynamics--everything is there and excellent.

The Tranquility is plugged into a battery power Mac Mini (details in my system description).
