Hi rosconey,
I have been usink a pair of Amperex 6DJ8  A frame in my EEAudio minimax cdp with great success I got them from a friend that  has access to military surplus (free) . If you can find them I would give it a try even at a bit over your price limit .

I'm toying with the idea of buying a 6922 or 6JD8 for my Scott Nixon Tube Dac and Amperex is very high on the list...  Right now I've got a Siemens 7308, a Philips and a Sovtek.

Jon L,  I sold my Cary SLP 2002 because Cary discontinued it, and over the years, a few 98 owners told me it wasn't as good as the 98. I never heard a 98 nor ABed them before ordering my 98. I just called Cary and went over mods and options with Kirk. I orderd a 98L with Hexfeds and direct coupled options. I will do caps around Xmas.
The 2002 I had did have the caps upgrade.  When I got my 98, I ran it with the stock Chinese 6SN7s for about 100 hours. I noticed immediately a much wider and deeper soundstage. I next tried all EH 6SN7s and the 98 then had the nicer dynamics of the 2002 without loosing the better soundstage. I'm now into Sylvania 6SN7Ws, VT 231s and GTAs and GTB combos. Next up RCA.
Steve K, I'll bet you have some of those PQ , two star halo getter Amperex 6922s I love. You just did not pay $200/pr for them. Great balance and tone.

I just invested a couple of 6922 and 6DJ8 tubes from web and they are not all quiet.  Leedselect gives good price but 4 out 6 tubes are microphonic (noisy) It's a hit or miss.  Upscaleaudio so far is one of the real deal!

Hey Rosconey, I have been running a kick ass matched and balanced Quad of Amperex 7308s in my Anthem Pre1L that i bought from  Bruce Wenger at  BWS tubes  but they were well over $300.00 for the quad. he said that he has some Amperex A frames that he prefers over the Amperex bugle boys that he also sells and i believe they start at around $35.00 each. thanks....WCW III

I paid $160 for a pair of NOS Amperex 7302, 1964-65 which I think is a good deal if they are not microphonic.
