Resistor help!
« on: 15 Mar 2013, 11:15 pm »
I was advised by my amp manufacturer to replace two 1M ohm resistors with two 470k ohm resistors in order to lower the input sensitivity (raise the mv).  I received my new 470k ohm metal film .25w 1% resistors today but they are a lot smaller than the 1M ohm.  I was told by someone else in the field what specs to get, but admittedly he had no idea what was in my amp other than them being 1M ohm.  Attached is the pic of what I need to replace, in the red box.  Would it be normal for the 470k ohm ones to be so much smaller or should I have got a wattage larger than .25w?   It's not easy to communicate with the amp manufacturer who is in China.

Lets see, Voltage equals the square root of Power times Resistance.

So the sq. rt. of 0.25 * 470000 = 343 Volts.

I doubt that the resistor has a 343 Volt rating and I doubt that you have 343 Volts across the resistor, so you're probably good to go.
