Audio gear and freezing cold conditions.
« on: 14 Mar 2013, 07:53 pm »
I have a small summer house on the west coast of Norway,
and I wonder how freezing cold conditions for weeks or even
months can affect audio gear, including some AVA equipment?

I'm aware of facts like:
Operation temperature of equipment,
Never move equipment from a cold room into a warm one,
Condensation can kill equipment etc.

AVA gear is born in the freezing cold. It's Woodbury, MN for cryin' out loud.

It will be cryoed and sound better. Kidding aside if not humid no problem at all.

If I understand your question you are concerned about leaving the equipment in a unheated house over the winter months.

This should not be a problem.

What would be the ambient temperature in the house when the equipment was turned back on?  I would not turn the equipment until the house has been brought up to temperature.

If stored for more that a year I would probably want to turn the system on slowly with a variac to protect the electrlytic capacitors.

Dean

Sounds like a great place for an Ultravalve!
