B&W DM 220 Re Cap
« on: 12 Mar 2013, 07:38 pm »
Hi guys, I'm new to this DIY stuff, so a little advice would be greatly appreciated. I dug out a pair of B&W DM220's that I want to replace the tweeters and capacitors for the practice. After a little searching around I found a tweeter made by Dayton I think is going to work (but I'm open for suggestions), but my question has to do with the capacitors. The caps. on the crossovers are made by Bennic and are marked BP-XS 10MFD-70WV and BP-XS 8MFD-70WV, which I'm not sure exactly what I need to replace them with. I want to use a good quality cap. does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks for any help, musclecars4ever.

I would think Bipolar Extend Service (=life) 10 micro farad and 8 micro farad caps rated 70 working (=max) voltage.

Do I win a prize?

You might try replacing with Metalized Polypropylene Film caps, try Partsconnxion, Parts Express, or Michael Percey.

Sorry no prizes, unless you consider my thanks as a prize. In that case you won first place. Back to the caps. the only ones I can find that are the right value and will fit in the x-over board are bi-polars. No big deal, I'm just doing the re-cap for the practice. The speakers will probably sit in the attic for another five years when I finish them. Thanks for the info., musclecars4ever.
