How about thinking more outside the box? What about adapting one of the rim-drive units to drive the WTT platter?
While it might be a pretty challenging adaptation, once you turned the bearing housing around and made sure there was no give in the platter-to-spindle interface (a problem with the damped black platter setups... I use some VERY thin tape around the outer rim of the platter mounting edge on the spindle), the table is ready for it.
Anyone know of any research in this direction?
