Would the current company making the Alpha cabinets be willing to sell precut baffles? I have neither the tools, nor the skill to cut the driver openings, but figure I could handle straight panels and assembly.

I emailed Sonic Craft, and they replied that they are no longer providing enclosures.

Funny you should ask.

There is a guy in Dallas that recently programmed a CNC machine to cut his baffles and asked me if there were others that might want baffles cut.

I believe the prices that he was tossing around to me were pretty reasonable.

Want me to get you a price?

You bet. I've been wanting to do this project for at least a year.

I'm guessing others contemplating this kit would be interested, as the baffles seem to be the most difficult aspect.

I just got word.

There are actually 4 panels that make up the front baffles.

There are two layers of 3/4" thick MDF that make up the area that the woofers are mounted to (1.5" thick in that area).

All four panels will be $150. plus the shipping.

All will be CNC cut.

I will turn you guys straight over to the guy that makes them too so you guys can deal with him directly.

Sound fair?

WOW  :o

If he is supplying front and back panels w/ all the holes recessed and cut for that price it'd be an absolute no brainer.  Even if shipping doubled the total cost ($300).  Cutting all those damn holes is the hardest part.  Especially that long recessed tweeter slot.

Assuming the guy does good work, I highly recommend this approach for anyone considering building the Alphas.  You'll want to make sure he has good info on the driver hole sizes you want.  The drawings don't show some of the dimensions he'll need to define in making the holes.

You'll also want to consider if you are using any sort of gasket material under the drivers so you properly compenstate for that in the recess depth(s).

He not only has the plans but I sent him drivers as well.

I have had really good luck using a thin bead of plumbers putty for gaskets.

You can get a small tub of it for next to nothing at a hardware store.

It never hardness and makes removing drivers pretty easy if you need to.

It seals well and crushes down to nothing to if you need it too.

Nifty little trick eh?

Got that right. Went through a couple router bits going through all that MDF. It dulls bits fast and being 1 1/2" thick helps too... If I were doing it again, I'd order these in a heartbeat.

As someone who cut 32 holes and 16 recesses, I gotta say it's a screaming deal.
If there's any fence sitters out there, jump on this deal like Kobe on hotel employee!!! :D

All that plywood/MDF dust that now coats my lungs is surely worth $10,000 in future medical expenses! :D

Andrikos,

The pictures are awsome. They will be very useful to me in constructing my speakers.

Thanks, Dave :D
