If only you guys were closer.  I wonder how the latest iteration compares with my Besl Series 5 MTMs with 12" drones.  I'm sure the new ones sound superb.   :thumb:

Cheers,

I am looking at the Sunday 2-4 time.  Just cleared it with the boss.  Not that I can afford a set of these...still would like to hear them.

I sent an email to everybody with a link back to here.
I did get one back verifying the location of the event.
It's at your house and they should PM you for directions, right Dave?

Well, I have been hoping to get some feedback on other convenient times, and have put both Saturday AND Sunday for listening, and have weeknights available as well. I just needed to get the ball rolling in the roaring silence. As good as these speaks are, I wouldn't think too many people would want to miss listening for themselves.

Sounds great, Ken. Munchies if you want, we will keep the eating and talking to a break period. Bring a couple favorite cds, these speakers especially favor imaging and sound field over volume.

Just returned home from a great visit at Dave's.  The Bamberg Series 5 speakers were very awesome.  Liked getting the tour of how they were setup and seeing all the cool tweakables.   8)  Really thought they did an excellent job at keeping the hot things hot and the cold things cold.  That is to say, keeping clarity between the instruments and the vocals without muddying up or distorting things.  I brought a SACD, though didn't use the SACD channel, of a Living Stereo album of Julian Bream. http://www.sa-cd.net/showtitle/4326 I had listened to this on my meager system and headphones before.  Liked hearing more separation in the bass and more roominess in the reverberations of the recording location.  Even heard him breathe a little.  :D  I mentioned on the G. Lightfoot song you could hear the distortion caused by his mustache.  Really enjoyed listening to Pink Floyd - One of These Days and Richard Strauss - Also Sprach Zarathustra.  The best speaker rendition of those I have heard.  To paraphrase Ferris - If you have the means, I highly recommend picking a pair up.

Would like to thank Dave for his hospitality for allowing this listening session.  It did go to 4 o'clock, by my watch which I hadn't adjusted yet.

A big thanks to Dave for hosting the event.  The Bamberg 5s are truely amazing.  The spaciousness and depth of field were great.  While they were at their best at the located sweet spot, other locations in the room were also very good in terms of balance and imaging.  A very impressive speaker.  Also, their bass was very pleasant.

And don't forget that the bass drivers are self powered.  That is berry, berry value adding if you ask me,  Then, depending on the wattage requirement of the mid and high frequency drivers, you could get one of the low wattage amps out there that critics swear by.  Those with tubes at any rate.  Tho I didn't attend, I thank Dave along with you guys for hosting.

Jim, these are one of a few speakers that I shudder to think about increasing their imaging ability. They image well enough with a clean low powered Class A solid state(Monarchy Pro SM70) that I would not rush to throw them on a tube amp out of necessity. It is nice to have the option as a luxury, rather than a need. 8)

I'm glad (relieved, too) that it is going so well.  Dave and Mark had the room and system ready for me.  In just one hour, I made the acoustic image that I like to hear.  Dave's long room helped a lot, because the speakers are well out from the front wall.  Acoustic treatment at the sidewall first reflection points would help even more, but as was said, the front/center chair is the place that showcases the holographic image between and behind the speakers.

We also used the OmniMic system to prove out the bass level control setting, and fine-tune for equal time-of-flight from left/right speakers.  The SPL was exceptionally flat from low to high, and we elected not to even use the PEQ bass trap filter.   :thumb:

Just curious - was there time to play some of the sample songs I left?

We ran the Crusaders and a few others as well, Phil. We also delved into each person's stash of well known reference songs they use for dialing in a system. We haven't played any Metallica or Black Sabbath yet, but so far there have been no bumps in the road at all. These speakers take everything in stride, and a beautiful balanced stride it is.  :thumb:
