FS: DIY 3-way (RAAL, AudioTechnology, Scan-Speak)
« on: 5 Mar 2013, 10:40 pm »
I never thought I would fall to the WAF and now look where I find myself.  I am putting my custom 3-way speaker up for sale as well as a custom center channel.

The enclosures were both sprayed with automotive paint and rubbed until a high gloss was achieved. The drivers are a RAAL 140-15D, an AudioTechnology 18H (custom), and a Scan-Speak 26W/8867T in the 3-way.  The tweeter portion uses ClarityCap SA capacitors and there are foil inductors where required. The cabinet was built with an aluminum plate behind the tweeter cabinet allowing easy access at the crossover to make modifications. I never got around to doing that.

The center channel uses a Scan-Speak 6600 tweeter, an AudioTechnology 15H midrange, and two Dayton RS180 drivers.

This is a picture of testing the 3 speakers.

This is a picture as soon as they were finished being rubbed for the last time. The plinth, the woofer cabinet, and the midrange/tweeter are separate pieces.  The tweeter housing starts grey and finishes black.  It adds some elegance to a dark speaker enclosure.

I would like $4,000 for the package. I spent over $3,000 finishing the speakers so please understand the high asking price for a custom design. I obviously am unable to ship these speakers so local pick-up would be the ticket. I am in the Minneapolis area if there is interest.

I have the crossover schematic and the drawings. My friend who helped with the crossover design I consider to be extremely competent. The midrange has a first-order filter, the woofer has a second-order (electrical), and the ribbon has a 4th-order filter. There are two notches on the midrange to counteract different resonances.

PM me with any questions.

From a fellow DIY speaker builder, your speakers look wonderful!!  :thumb:

Good luck with your sale.  It is probably bittersweet for you though.  :?

Randy
