Vpi circle?

Maybe it is time for a dedicated vpi circle?
Sure would make it easier to filter through vinyl circle posts.
What do you think John?

Me John I take it you mean, Bill?  (Not JohnR, site owner)

A seperate and distinct new circle would need to be created by someone other than myself.  The normal procedure is to ask for feedback, comments and a vote (also volunteering as Facilitator).  If there's enough interest for a specific VPI enthusiast circle at AC it'll be set up then.

All I have the power to do is make a very specific or helpful topic a sticky on Vinyl Circle.  If some topic like 'care and feeding of your VPI' is made and there are very helpful hints for getting the most out of your VPI; something like that might merit a sticky.  Otherwise, it would be general topic stuff.

Thanks John, yes I was asking you.
Are there any volunteers to mod a vpi circle?

Big Billy B,

The post isn't done here on Vinyl Circle - it's HERE on a circle specifically set up for that: http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?board=142.0

Read the guidelines, post away and see what happens.....

I'm in, btw....seems they have at least as large a base of support at AC than the other enthusiast circles.

Cheers, John

Thought I'd drum up support first!
Thanks for your kind patience. Perhaps someone else can pick up the ball and run with it?

I'm not really a VPI enthusiast myself. I just see that the vinyl circle is getting a lot of VPI related posts and maybe someone can start a new circle.

I'm a VPI owner. The thought of a VPI Circle is nice. I'd especially like to see if Harry or Matt would jump on board and create a profile to speak/comment like Albert does on the Von Schweikert Forum.

I don't think Harry has a lot of time or patience for audio forums.  At least he wan't that impressed the last time I spoke to him.  I've always thought a VPI owners circle would be a good idea and would participate.  On the other hand it would be a dilution of the Vinyl Circle that may not be necessary, perhaps a sticky thread for VPI tweaks and upgrades would be enough.  As John says, all it takes is a volunteer to be the facilitator and propose the circle.

Harry has taken a lot of cr@p online and he probably is not at his best on the keyboard.  I think an idiot on another forum literally cyber stalking him put him off completely.

A circle would be good.

I don't think this would be a problem as long as the facilitator is on the ball about moving general tt topics over to the vinyl circle.  While I don't own VPI, I think a circle here is a good idea.  There seem to be more VPI owners on this site than owners of some other manufacturers circle's equipment.

Is there a VPI enthusiast who would like to champion the proposal and become the moderator?
I think it would be an active forum.

I would certainly participate. I've been a VPI owner for 20yrs and am buying a new Classic I or II shortly.

I have a VPI HW-19 MkIII and would participate also. Not knowledgeable enough to moderate!

You don't need experience, but you do need a passion for the circle or it just dies on the vine.  While I would participate in a VPI owners circle and would not oppose starting one, I just don't think we really need another vinyl devoted circle on this site.  Therefore I, for example, wouldn't be someone who would sustain the interest needed.  On another site that shall remain forever nameless in my posts (I call it Virose Exgorgitation in my weaker moments) they didn't even have a VPI  section.  But if someone here had the interest and the drive, enough to suggest a circle on the Proposals thread and be the facilitator, I would support them.

I'm sure no one here objects to VPI specific threads.  Some beautiful and inspiring pics, BTW on the "show me" thread.  If you started a new circle you'd reduce the audience and probably run out of things to say after awhile.  I guess you could move the VPI threads over and add to them or do them again, or have history of VPI and discussions about VPI arms. Maybe Matt would give you a tour of the factory and you could do an interview and take pics.

For the most part you'd be preaching to the choir, so to speak, and the number of people seeing those great pics would not only be diminished IMO, but your status would be changed to "fanboy".  On the VPI circle who would dispute a shootout with another table, or how many people would even see it, compared to right here.

Needless to say, I think it's a bad idea.  Other mfg circles seem to be sponsored by the mfg, or in the case of Well Tempered, a source of information for a line with extremely limited distribution.  I don't think there is a US dealer, and a golf ball arm bearing is easy to make fun of, even if it does sound great.

So, VPI Circle, can we get one? :thumb:

I agree with Neo, think carefully before you split the vinyl circle.  What will go into a VPI circle that shouldn't be seen in vinyl?  You could make the argument that a healthy portion of posts in vinly relate to VPI, but I think that's cyclical and probably at a peak right now with the popularity of the Classic line.  The problem is that many of what could be considered VPI centric posts have value to other tables and arms, so why limit the exposure?

Just keep an open mind and think about why you want to split.
