Due to size restrictions behind my stereo cabinet I require a single width power strip.  I really only need about 4 plugs as I have two dedicated 15 amp hospital grade outlets there now and I will plug my amps directly into one side of each of these.  I have just read that the Ncore amps work better running direct though I am not sure why? So, I would get 2 that have four in them and that would give me a total of 10 plugs which should be pretty good. Clear enough?

What I have no idea about is when or why to use conditioning and when to just use a power strip to get the additional plugs?

If I have to go double width due to quality I think I could figure out a way to make that work but It would not be my first choice.

The Ncore is a well designed unit, it shouldn't need power conditioning.

The "why" part is because many power conditioners act as series resistors trying to limit current.

Any suggestions on what to use or should I just get a cheap power strip with no conditioning?  I need to plug in my plasma, Squeezebox Touch, Comcast DVR, Behringer DCX, and two Crown sub amps so what should I use?

I wouldn't get  a cheap anything as it's likely to sound cheap, but if you want a power strip sans conditioner there's the Wiremold L10320 or Tripp Lite Hospital Power strips. I use theWiremold and also a Tripp Lite Isobar.

I haven't gotten around to any audio comparisons between the two yet.

My Plasma really benefited when I plugged it into a Belkin PF60. Really perked up the picture.

Plus it wouldn't hurt to have some surge protection on your components.

FYI, cheap power strips caused a a hum in my system and actually created a buzz that was "controlled" by a wall dimmer.  Power strip gone, problem gone...

Sorry - I just re-read and cleaned up my post. I guess I was having a Scott Brown moment. If you want surge protection I would go with Tripp Lite Isobar. I got the 8 outlet version. My only complaint is that it comes with a 12 foot power cord. Under $55 from Amazon. If you want just a power strip I recommend the Wiremold but it now costs about $90 so if you did not want to spend so much I would get a Tripp Lite Hospital Grade Power Strip. A six outlet strip will cost about $60.
