SP3 firmware update issue
« on: 25 Feb 2013, 10:26 pm »
Having issues with updating my firmware - wonder if anyone has seen this and can suggest a solution.

My SP3 came with firmware 2012.05e. I had since flashed it to 2012.12, however i notice it has reset itself to 2012.5e in recent weeks. I am not sure why it reverted to older firmware.

I have today tried to flash 2012.12, which failed to take, then 2012.11, which also failed to take. In both cases, the processor seemed to go through the correct update steps, but on restart the firmware stayed at 2012.05e. The display stated loading of the firmware, processor switches off and recycles, then come back to life.

I am sure I had previously gotten 2012.12 to take - e.g. I had been able to use the "Global source" option from 2012.11, this setting has now disappeared.

From the "Status" page:
Error and status messages:
    No User boot.hex
    IntFlash reprogramed
    Pic32 prog chksum OK

Number of Flash Write Cycles:
    Internal (PIC32MXx): 7
    External (25VFxx) : 96

Using firefox on windows 7 PC, though i am pretty certain this is not where the issues lie as the upgrade steps seem to happen correctly.

Additional info being reported on the web browser front screen:
Version:       f2012.05e  (index.htm-040)
Build Date:       Mar 19 2012 16:32:27
Serial Number:       336

Update - tried to clear the EEPROM settings back to default through the menu and then reflashing to 2012.12. Still no luck.

Call to Stan and he sorted it in 5 minutes - turns out using firefox is not too reliable and the process was aborting as it detected corruption in the upload file.

Tried it with internet explorer and all is fine!

Super support - thanks Bryston !
