Currently have the Stratos w/cap upgrade. Am upgrading to the mono's later this year. Anyone out there who has had mono's and has done the extreme conversion care to comment? I would appreciate the feedback as I am curious about the  sonic differences. Thanks guys!

Go for the Extremes. It doubles the power supply of the Mono's and is well worth the extra cash.

Edit: I guess that might have been a little brief. I can't say I have owned both  the mono and the Extreme mono (I have owned a stereo and the Extremes) but I have heard both and the Extremes were more dynamic with improved smoothness (not that the mono's are rough). Overall tonal balance is very similar but the improved dynamics are what is most noticable.

Thanks for the edited detailed description of the extremes, Mgalusha. I have not heard them and was trying to figure out if the upgrade from the mono's was worth the xtra $$.

audioslave,

I own a pair of both the regular monos and the extreme monos.  Here's a link to a quick review:  http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=5195&highlight=  .  I'm out of town for a couple of weeks (fishing trip  :thumb: ), if you have any specific questions I'd be happy to address them when I return.  Till then - I'm off in pursuit of a 50" Musky.

I'm running them on MAgnepan 3.5R's - power hungry speaker. Orginal monos were "ok"  but as Extreme's they are so darn good, I have lost my craving for a second pair to biamp. These amps barely get warm anymore (apart from the fact that they sound much more open and detailed).

At least on my speakers, the Extreme monos are twice the amps the regular units were.

Now, I was upgrading from a 2 year older mono design, so the current difference may not be as big as it was for me. Klaus had to completely gut my monos to "upgrade them" - all I got back that was original were the chassis and connectors

Thanks for the responses guys. As I draw closer to an upgrade, I will speak to the big man himself, Klaus, for his thoughts. I will also be PM'ing you guys if I have any more questions, as your individual experiences of ownership of this fine product will be very helpful in making my final decision.

Last time i checked a 50" Musky was a big fish - maybe you confused 30 with 50?  I'd like to (and I'm sure ESPN would as well) like to know where the lake is where a 50 inch Musky is not worthy of film.  BTW - IMHO, ANY size northern is just bait.  Nice to see that in addition to your fondness of fish stories you have great taste in electronics.

serious about 50 being small, laverende park up north in cannuckville has the best fishing in north america my uncle used to say-he had lots of cash and went everyplace you can think of-even russia- to fish. park has about 20 lakes and is about 100 miles across bolth ways. moose walk into your camp area, the local indians buy the heads from your northerns and eat the brains and eyes-a awsome place to go-on the way there we stopped at a dam on the st lawrence and found a bait shop with musky jaws on the wall some had a opening over 12 inches, did a little trolling and hooked a big one that towed the boat for 15 minutes before the steel leader broke :o  that sucker was bigggggggggg.

if he was still alive i would give him your number- he could show you some fishing.

rosconey - thanks for the post.  I will check it out.  I once met an old native guide - Leonard I believe - telling me some stories about remote areas of Lac Seul.  Still 50" muskies were not common.  He turned me on to some nice fishing.  BTW - I did have a fish tow our boat a while back - a 22" smallie - 3 guys in a 14' boat - a portage adventure.  You gotta love fishing, beats the s&^% out of golf, IMHO.

Old Leonard finally caved in and told me his secret for catching monster muskies.  "Don", he said, "I've spent many years guiding and more years doing independent research.  There are many places to catch a monster musky.  Some are known only to the locals...some are known only as native folklore.  Through my research - corroborated by my clients, I can confidently say that the best place to hook a monster musky is .... in the lip!"
