Got some panels for my rear walls.

Got some accoustic art panels for my rear wall and these are 2 inches thick. I thought it was gonna do some good, but it ended deading the ambience. The panels are working as advertised, but it seems like i lost the ambience that i am used to have without the panels. Good thing is that i havent put them on.
So whats the deal with acoustic panels, do people really need acousctic panels all over their listening room?

A lot of people have preferences towards "liveliness" of their rooms.

In many cases, when people use relatively thin panels, you end up deadening the high end without affecting the low end, leaving you with unbalanced decay times. We actually just published an article I wrote about decay times - feel free to check it out here: http://gikacoustics.com/understanding-decay-times/

This is why we usually suggest bass trapping rooms and not just simply putting the thinnest panels everywhere. We've also developed tuned bass traps and products like our Scatter Plate to keep liveliness in the room while giving the acoustic control that is needed. Diffusion is also a wonderful tool to reduce harmful reflections while preserving ambiance.

to Alex's point, when i placed 6 inch monster bass traps on my rear wall ( my first room treatments) I thought something was wrong with my ears because it sounded SO different. The highs actually sounded better and more clear.
