mobile phone interference
« on: 21 Feb 2013, 06:33 pm »
Sorry for this non Bryston related post, but I couldn't find a better suited thread on AC.

Never experienced before, but just now I was standing near my Rel B1 sub, and heard the characteristic Mobile phone sound so often heard bleeping near a pc-stereo or other music system. I was surprised to say the least, if not shocked, this rather expensive system, connected with a balanced van den Hull cable, was prone to this external influence this badly.

Is there anything I might try to prevent this? Other than keeping my mobile phone away form the Sub?

Thanks,
Marius

Ask REL, maybe they are nor aware of this.
But, when you say it comes from the sub, maybe it enters through another component.

will try to ask Rel... could have thought of that myself :duh:

it doesn't enter through another component though, the Sub is not close to the other equipment, and I was standing right above it, no question there.

Thanks,
Marius

For the price one could think that they might have bought a couple square meters of (metal) bug screen and do a makeshift shield from it a la Faraday cage.

Cover it with metal insect screen (optionally grounded), if you still have interference, then it's probably coming through the cables, if not then sell the sub if they didn't bother spending $2 on a shield then it's very probable that they cut some other corners too.
