copying files to the BDP: AFP or SMB protocol

Hi James, Chris,

Since we can not post in the Instructional Video's, please let me ask here: in http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=99702.msg1192462#msg1192462 I see you connect via SMB protocol in Mac/finder. After connecting, one has to select a drive to activate.

Is that in any consequence different from connecting via the AFP protocol, which I've always used up to know?  AFP doesn't ask for any activation of drives, and just shows them all at once.

Cheers.

Hi Marius,

That's just how the connect to server option works, it would be the same for either afp or samba.  The BDP doesn't make use of afp as macs can make use of both.  Running both would end up being extra overhead that granted would be used by Mac users but there would've be anything beneficial for the task at hand.

Cheers,
Chris

Ok Thanks, had no issues seeing the HDD's, just needed some reassurance.

Still, this might not be the source of the persistent problems  I'm having with the Album Art DB not finishing its indexing? Or the disappearing Network shares every once in a while? (same with the Upnp connection)
