I am trying several different digital direct recievers to find the best stocker to modify.

While looking at AVS forums, there are several people claiming that there sa-xr-45 has shut down while using 5-6.1 channels for movies.

I have ran 5 -6/0hm 88 db speakers to deafening levels, set on large whith the 45 whithout problem, and at least one of these people has speakers whith the exact ohm/ db specs and  room size and said there 45 shuts down.

Anyone else have a Pany receiver shut down?

Since I missed out on any new XR45's I bought the XR25 until I could get a used 45.

During the time I had the 25 it did have problems shutting down in any 'surround mode' whether it was dolby pro logic or DTS.  I took it back to the dealer, they sent it to an authorized Panasonic Repair shop and two weeks later it was fixed.  I ran it straight for a month after that and never had another hiccup or problem.  Then I sold it to a friend after I was confident it would not go into that shut down mode again. (actually it didn't shut down it just made crackling noises through all channels and I had to shut it down to get it to stop).

I have recently aquired the XR45 and I have never had a problem with it in the last couple months since I got it.

My 45 has never had a problem with this or in any other way since I've had it, which is now going on 8 months.  I run six speakers in full range, not including the sub, which I have yet to build.  Four of them are 8ohm, two are 6ohm.  I probably see 5 or 6 dvds on it per month, played at the -20db to -15db level.  This can be VERY loud in my room.  It's an excellent unit.

Thanks guys, I just tried a Harmon Kardon dpr 2005 and had the crackling sound that heavystarch mentioned , but only in the right front speaker.
It also has a ohm setting for 4-6-8 ohms and when I tried toggling through these via on screen graphics, I got a loud buzzing noise, also through the right front only.

I sent the 2005 back and read two positive reveiws of it at AVS and then, one poster who raved about it, had crackling through his right front and now another poster has the loud buzzing in his right front.

I Actually like the Pany 45 more than my most likely defective dpr 2005.

I hate it when manufactuers use us for QC .
