3 x GR-Rythmik servo drivers, 3 servo amps and 3 of Ruben H's cabinets was just short of $3K. DCX 2496 for XO that has been tweaked a bit, perhaps $500. A lot of GIK bass traps, dunno, I bought their entire allotment from RMAF in 2006 for a really good price. Net result is excellent bass.

My main speakers (Von Schweikert VR-4s) go down to 20Hz. To improve that bass, I have a DSPeaker Dual Core 2.0, and 2 GIK 244s.

Got rid of my 4 X F-113's once I auditioned the 1812 at the dealers and then my home.
Most musical sub I have heard and I'm still shocked at how she gets out of the way of the upper frequencies.
Mid bass punch like I've never heard before. If she wasn't so big i'd look for another.
She's a 300lb trailer park queen, but it's what she does that's important as I have had a few different subs and used every inch of my floor to try to get them right.
The 1812 musically is a keeper for me.

Has yours been on a diet or had liposuction?
Isn't it closer to 400lbs? Now, that's a subwoofer!
I can understand why it would be a keeper. Somehow, I don't think the size is the only impediment to a second one. Whew, that's a tough bill to swallow, but I imagine it's one of those devices that makes one forget the sting in the wallet during its debut performance. Color me green. :green: :thumb:

Does she have a mugshot?

Now this is really nice bass. Not wall crushing thumping...I have no need to have the bass vibrate my internal organs. Nor do I have any need to impress/annoy my neighbors at all with my bass ability.

This is also what I have. 8)
Not bone jarring or need of an antacid, just all of the bass that is in the music and nothing more.  :D
Funny thing is, that most  would be surprised at how much bass is in their music.   :o

I am not sure how the money for speakers was assumed to be allocated. In my case I didn't think in terms of separating the systems bass capabilities from the rest the musical spectrum. I chose to purchase the bass extension and output performance as well as overall speaker sensitivity up front. Auxiliary DIY subs were built to flatten the in room response. The main speakers were $6,500 in 2005 and roughly another $700 in parts to build two auxiliary subs about 4 years ago.

From looking at the voting so far (47 votes), that maybe the proper question should have been how much one spent in relation to the rest of their system.

Over the decades...millions, of farthings.

But within the last few years...$499. Crown xti 1002, has a built-in DSP allowing EQ, XO, etc.
Bass may not be GREAT yet, but its better...now I need to invest in some real measuring tools (mike), my SPL meter can only take me so far.

Hey!

It is not much about money for me. Since I built my Single driver speakers, they didn't cost me much.

But they cost me hours...  months of tuning them. Trying to get the most low extension, tight bass from a 6" fullrange driver is the hardest thing for me since I got in to the world of audio.

Even today once I a while idea will pop in my head about tweaking them. But it seems like the more I try to improve it, the worst it gets overall.

True that I can just spent more money and get a subwoofer or two. But than the idea of "Simpliciy" ....you know, simpler is better will be lost and that's what my whole system is based on.

Take care,

As someone who works in survey research, I can certainly attest to the importance of phrasing a question well. Absolute amounts vs. relative amounts tell us different things. And in the context of audio, the amount of money spent on getting bass right doesn't make as much sense when without knowing total system cost. Though of course having both absolute (dollar amount) and relative (% of system cost) would ultimately be the most informative. OK, survey geek out.

I agree, I'm still learning, oh well, maybe next time.
