I recently picked up an optical cable from monoprice with the intent to run it from my sony playstation 3 to my Benchmark DAC1 USB. But no sound or music. I believe that SPS3 outputs 44.1 or 48kps at 16 bits. I have seen several dialog boxes pop up saying that some of my music needs to be upsampled (probably wrong term) to 24 bit in order to play through Benchmark. Therefore, does Benchmark only play 24 bit audio and are these two devices incompatible for playback?

Thanks, Garth

The Benchmark can play 16-bit files.  The problem may be that the PS3 is set to output Dolby Digital through the optical digital output.  Standard audiophile DACs can only process 2-channel PCM, so it's likely that you need to get into the PS3 setup and set the digital output to PCM.
