Cheap Install for Performance space.

I volunteered to help out an art teacher, to pick out some stuff for a performance space. The budget is $200, but I'm already suggesting going over that. Her initial thought was surround-sound in a can. I think this would hinder performance a lot. Plus it'd kill the options for speaker choice in direction. She thought going to thrift stores, but that wouldn't give any real options, and wouldn't likely lead to 4 equal speakers.

What I'd be purposing is this, but if I can get it down cheaper...

Pioneer SP-BS22-LR x 2 pair. 1 in each corner ($90 a pair from Amazon)
Audiosource AMP100

I guess that then students would have to select which speakers they want playing with some banana ends ($.99 ones). I thought about using a speaker switch of some sort, because with that amplifier you could select between A and B speakers, but with only one speaker switch could re-orient the sound to the side wall as opposed to front or back. But then another would be needed for orienting to the opposite wall. Seems complicated.

Wire will be cheap or donated from local place that usually has a lot (building reuse, recycle center).

Is this going to be a PA system? Does it have to have high SPLs (music, plays, rehearsals)? How large of a room are you trying to fill?

If so, you'll probably want to look into building a pair of diy pro audio speakers. Not sure if those Pioneers will be able to handle that kind of load/abuse.

It is something like 25x35, maybe smaller.

There isn't a budget for a PA system. They were seriously thinking about something like this. There isn't a way to build much at that price range. I figured the Pioneers would get mildly loud in that small space at 50w. It isn't that big of a deal, not for shooting at $200 to start with.
