Marantz tt15-s1??
« on: 10 Feb 2013, 10:23 pm »
I am considering  the Marantz TT15-s1 if I can get a good del on it. I know it is a clearaudio TT and supposedly better than the emotion. I am wondering if this is a big step up from a Denon DP62-L I just acquired. The Denon is a nice TT and so far I haven't even scratched (punny!!!) the performance surface. But the Marantz is so much cooler and more modern looking. ANy comments and insights appreciated.

You may want to "scratch" somewhat deeper into that just-acquired Denon's performace surface and give it a chance to show you what it has--and whether you'll be happy with it--before you make the jump to something else. I've been there, done that (more times than I care to remember), and know how much it has cost me over the years, especially the early ones. Serious listening to evaluate a component takes time, but the effort's worth it (in hard cash, if nothing else) over the long haul.

Jim - I realize ...just that an opportunity presents itself. Of course I could use the same money and buy a better cartridge or phono.

I wonder if it is priced higher in Japan. That ebay price is way out of line.

I found the speed stability to be not-so-great and I thought overall it had a toy-like feel about it, especially the arm.  There's a Concept on Audio Asylum for $880.

I feel a used VPI Scout or a Traveler or the Concept would be a better table for around the same price.
