If you have Netflix streaming, be sure to check this series out.  Solid cast and an interesting look at political maneuvering.

Me and the missus watched the first 5 episodes this week. We love it.  Netflix is on to something big with offering a whole season of new programming for viewers to watch when they like.  The days of weekly episodes may be nearing their end.

On the tenth episode. Loving it. Kevin Spacey is really good in this. But I am a fan since I saw The Usual Suspects.

Just finished 9 and 10....I think 9 is my favorite episode to date...just awesome entertainment!

I love that Netflix has released the entire season.  I've really never been a huge fan of scripted television. But from time to time I will give a show a chance that has stood the test of time, and when I do that it's usually a huge binge like many of us are doing with House of Cards. For me, it all started with the show '24'. I had never seen a single episode of the show until it was in season 5. I sort of got talked in to watching the first episode of the first season. I still remember it like it was yesterday...I had just gotten my first projector and it was sometime in late 2005 around 3am. The first episode took place in the evening, so it really was almost as if I were watching in real time. By the time the night was over, I had finished all four episodes on the first disc and was literally starving for more. Over the next few weeks I would literally watch every episode of the show all the way up to the current season that was just about to begin on Fox. Since that time I've done the same with the Sopranos, Dexter, Nurse Jackie (surprisingly good, and as an RN myself it's of particular interest), Lost, and Sons of Anarchy. I have to say, now that I've had some experience with shows that are available as entire seasons, I much prefer this method to watching weekly episodes. The other show I did this with was Breaking Bad...I saw the first two seasons in short order on Amazon streaming, and once I was caught up and had to wait an entire week in between 42 minute "tastes" of such an amazing narrative, I was miserable lol.

I love that Netflix has done this...what a ride this show has been. It got just a TAD slow for me during episodes 4 and 5, but otherwise it's been a great ride.

I binged out on The Wire.  Tremendous show.  I think I waited a month or two to watch the last episode.  I couldn't face that it was over... :D

For a quirky and funny series watch Lilyhammer on Netflix. Who knew Steve Van Zandt could do situational comedy so well.

I keep forgetting about that one...seems like everyone I know loved it...I need to check it out.

usp1: Agree on Lilyhammer...I got a kick out of that show and loved the scenery!

Just finished up ep13 of House of Cards...wow! The last 4 episodes had me riveted. I just read today that Netflix invested 100 MILLION into this series...that is HUGE! I know it was a well calculated risk, but I had no idea they had that much into the production of this thing. Supposedly the early reports are that this has been a huge hit, so I'm really glad that their investment is paying off. I can't wait for S2! What a great surprise this has been.

The entire series was a Christmas gift to me from my daughter.  My wife and I stayed up very late for the next five nights viewing.  I'm a fan.  There was a show on one of the off beat channels a couple of years ago called "Thief" with Andre Braugher that I'm on the lookout for.  So far, no soap.  Plan to read up on House of Cards.  Cheers

Just as an FYI, over the Christmas holidays I watched a British Series called The Hour which could loosely be described as a mix of The Newsroom, MadMen and The Wire.  I enjoyed the two seasons they have up on Netflix...

Another big thumb's up for House of Cards!  Really enjoy the chemistry between Spacey and the amazing Robin Wright.  Talk about must-see TV, like most of the other posters in this thread, I devoured the entire series in a very short time.  A show that's left me cold is The Americans. It's well done but ultimately not compelling ('must-see'), I guess I've been spoiled by 'Homeland'!  Now THAT'S an espionage show done right!;)

Since There's been mention of The Wire on this thread, recently I re-watched a show via HBO/On Demand that aired originally in 2000; The Corner.  Any fan of David Simon's 'vision' as depicted on The Wire and Treme should enjoy The Corner.  Hard to use the word 'enjoy' regarding this show considering it's brutally raw depiction of a drug-ravaged neighborhood in Baltimore but again, any fan of The Wire will recognize these streets. Not to mention many of the same actors seen in The Wire & Treme, powerful television!

I got addicted to "Midsommer Mysteries" via netflix, which was a big hit during the 90s and early 2000s in Britain, but pretty much unknown here as far as I know or diin't know. Fun shows.

I've resisted watching this as the UK House of Cards trilogy on which its based was IMO one of the best TV mini series ever done, and just keep thinking that I would be disappointed by this one in comparison.  Anyone out there seen both & care to comment?

My wife and I stopped watching it after two episodes. If it is not an accurate picture of the Washington political scene, then why watch it; if it is accurate, then it's too depressing to watch. Spacey and Wright are terrific, however.

I watched a few episodes of the American version, which I like a lot, before trying an episode of the original.  I didn't get very far into the British version as I found it cheesy in comparison.  I'll give it another try...

It seems to be a bit of both:  http://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/entertainment/articles/2013-02/15/house-of-cards-netflix-review

I enjoy seeing reality instead of an idealized view of what man is and does.  The idealized view leads to idolatry...
