Pioneer SP-BS22 Thoughts?
« on: 4 Feb 2013, 03:16 pm »
Wasn't really sure where to place this.  Though figured there may be some starting out, or who may have started out, without $2,000 speakers.

So any thoughts/comments on the above Pioneer's 22 speakers?  Looking for something inexpensive to use in my kids game/play/home theater room.

Anything else out there in the $100-$130/pair price range that I should maybe take a peek at?

Thanks in advance for the time.

Regards
Jeff

Jeff - I have the 41 Pioneer speakers, previous generation, and they sound very good for Rock music.  Not the last word in detail or transparency but I can't believe they sound this good for $90 delivered.  The new model, the SP-BS22 is supposed to sound even better.  These with decent receiver would be great for your application.  My neighbor has the set with the center channel and sub and it sounds pretty good.  They would be a good, inexpensive choice for a game room or HT.

I'm surprised by how loud they play and the bass output.  IMO, they are in a class above the other speakers in this price range (Polk, Infinity, etc.).  I even like them better than the little Paradigm Atom speakers.  For the money, they are a bargain.

I bought a pair on Frank's recommendation and they are very impressive for the size and especially the price. A whole lot more bass than I was expecting and a very good overall sound. They are not that efficient and will need some power but can play reasonably loud, depending on the type of music. Much better than the Infinity P150 that Stereophile liked from about 7 years ago.

At the moment, Tiger Direct has a great price on them. Lower than when I bought mine from them a couple of weeks ago. :-(

Thanks J-Crew(JT, Jack, and JM).  Going to pick-up a pair from B/B on the way home.

Thanks for the link JT.  Did a search, but it came up blank.  Hence my post.

We'll picked up a pair at BB last night.  Funny how when they run these sales they only have like 1 pair per store.  But I digress.

Only had a chance to play with them for maybe an hour.  I can see how some browsing would overlook the Pioneers.  They are hungry devils.  An instant drop in dynamics switching from something like Polk, Infinity, Klipsch, etc.  They also appear to be a tad more mellow too.  So they do not "stand-out" as much as some of the other speakers one would compare them to.

Got to say so far, I am impressed with such a refined sound for the money.  $90 a pair is a no brainer.  Heck for $260, I got a complete home theater system.

Looking forward to spending some more time with them.
