MODIFYING EQ's--WHAT CAPS TO USE??
« on: 25 Jan 2013, 03:26 pm »
Well me and my buds have 4 EQ's available to us and instead of spending stupid amounts of money on cables(Cardas GR,Kubala,etc.)...We want to change out some of the more critical parts in the SQ path with some better cap and was wondering if anyone has done this before and if so what caps/results you had??
We have 2 Ashly(1-dual 15 band)(one dual 31 band)
one Rane GE-30
and one pair Klark Tecknic DN-a27
thanks.

Teflons or polystyrenes are preferred, but they big and expensive. Regards

I did a couple of audio source units and butler tube eq's. I used solens and the improvement was noticable.

How about oil caps?
Some Vishays for replacements here and there

I suggest you start with sharing the $ budget you intend to spend (on parts) and work backwards from there.

There are dozens of variables and possiblities depending on what you are starting with.  In addition, keep in mind there may be pots and other parts (connectors, wire, power supply) that would be more beneficial to upgrade than just "caps".  I know nothing about your EQs, but even the two different EQ manufacturers may have different areas/parts that could benefit from parts upgrades.  If you have the schematics of the design, I suggest contacting the guys at Sonic Craft.  They could look at the schematic and with a few photos of the existing parts give you an idea of where best to spend you dollars.
