Windows 8 compatibility issues
« on: 25 Jan 2013, 04:36 am »
I just bought a new computer with Windows 8 and immediately encountered compatibility issues with magicjack and my printer, a Cannon MP495.  At first I was able to install both, but both became corrupted and couldn't be uninstalled.  I checked both in devices and they indicated that the drivers were correct.  I tried to download Java to allow tech support to obtain access to my computer, but it refused to download and error coded unreadable corrupt file path.

I'm hoping it was just a corrupted OS directly from HP, this is what customer support opined the issue to be and recommended that I return it for an exchange, which I did.  I will attempt to set it up again tomorrow and hope for the best.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems with W8?  The Internet lists issues with magicjack and W8, but many are also saying no problem.  I didn't try my iPhone on it to see if it will load iTunes and there us also some chatter about compatiblity as well with iTunes and W8.

I hope I didn't step in a can of worms.

Thanks,

Jim

The replacement computer configured no problem and I was able to install the required software that I wasn't able to on the first one.  Now it is just about learning to navigate W8...

You got a faulty OS then? the Upgrade assistant seems to help checking drivers/apps if they are compatible with win8.

I think you are right, I remember a recent news story where there were computers coming from China loaded with malware and other nice things.

So far, so good with the replacement, still trying to get the hang of it.

Sounds more like your first computer had a defective hard drive or RAM memory, or maybe a motherboard problem.

I dont think it was hardware related. Some people had update horrors with this new version, glad you sorted it out.  :D

It was definitely something loaded on the OS as Norton noted 2 issues that it was unable to fix.  I believe the error codes were 5426 and 241.
