Decware Zenhead Amp
« on: 24 Jan 2013, 02:48 am »
I purchashed a new laptop computer. I was searching for a portable amp that could handle cans with a 600 Ohm load.  Upon many hours of internet searching I found this amp from Decware.  To me this is a no brainer buy.  The life time warranty (for the original owner only) is a beautiful gift as I see it.  Don't know who owns this amp, but if a member does I need your input, thoughts.  Looks like a winner to me.  Enjoy the music.

For myself the Decware Zenhead portable amp was a nice upgrade from a Headroom portable amp I had been using. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it made the Beyerdynamic headphones sound with a Zune 120 portable player I used at the time.

I was so impressed with this little amp I posted some of my impressions a few times on Head Fi.com. It was a few years ago but you search the archives under "portable amps" you should find the thread.

Congratulations & enjoy your new Zenhead.

Steve in NJ.  I also from NJ.  I own the Beyer DT 990's and the incredible T1's  I need an amp that can handle the 600 Ohm load on a portable level.  You say the Decware  is good enough?  Should I buy. ?

I just realized that the Beyerdynamic's I was driving were the 250ohm DT770s.

Sorry, I read your post as I was falling asleep & forgot the part about 600ohm drive capability. 600 ohm 'cans' are normally 'desktop amp' territory. Your best bet is to post this question over on Head-Fi.

Once again , sorry as I don't want to give you the wrong info. (like I almost did)

Reading the description in the link, it says the Zenhead handles cans between 10  and 600 ohms "with authority". Steve is a committed music lover and a
straight shooter. It has a lifetime warranty and 30 day moneyback trial. You could call Steve and ask him about it today or tomorrow (Tue through Fri)
and you will find him very easy to talk with.
I own the Zen Torii MkIII amp and it fulfills all its promises, otherwise no connection.

It looks like this portable has been out for some time, but is underrated.

I can recommend the Continental V1 (from Alo) if you plan to use the Beyer T1. In case you want an alternative  :)

Nuforce's UDH-100 is a possible contender as well.  I'm very much enjoying their UDac2 so this upgrade on their product line should not be a disappointment.

I dont know, but the Udac 2 measured poorly. Probably they have improved that on newest models?

I've own both the UDAC 2 and UDAC2 SE.

They SOUND great!

I never bought into the measurement hype started by that "NWGUY" or something who had a personal axe to grind against NU force.

Cool.
Some folks care too much about that. I've heard the uDAC-2 SE is another story in terms of performance.

My UDac2 in terms of performance is outstanding with the moderate Senn 555 phones...on an Acer Aspire 5742.

Tomorrow if the tracking is correct. Amazon has a warehouse in Allentown so I used to get stuff the next day by selecting regular delivery if I knew the chances were it shipped from there, but they must have caught on. Now they wait until 2 days before its due, then ship!......it was nice while it lasted. :thumb: It still works with video games though -LOL!! :thumb:
