DIY IEM custom earmolds- Cheap-n-cheerful... or just cheap?

Doing some googling on the custom molds I am considering for my Etymotics and came across this article on how to make your own. Cheap, all right, but I ain't got the nerve to try it. When the pros do it, they put a little plug in your ear to keep the 'goo' from going too deep. I can see this resulting in an audiologist visit- to dig out the silicone, probably much more than having it done right to begin with. Just thought some here might get a chuckle. Who knows, maybe some AC'er is crazy enough to try it...

It cost me $50 to have an audiologist do them for me.  It's well worth it.

I then sent the mold to the company to make the ear molds so they transducer could be added.

What brand IEMs? If Ety, was it through their program?
