Samsung Galaxy Note II

Anyone have experience with this?

I checked it out - interesting - suprisingly light and thin, could remove the back with my thumbnail to get access to thew battery and optional micoSD card (64GB).

Wonderful screen and runs Jelly Bean. Also is a touch sensitive tablet for a stylus. Not cheap at $250 even subsidized.

How do you use the stylus?

Do you use a microSD card?

Any good apps?

Using it as a remote control?

How about NFC?

the stylus is great and works amazingly well.  I use it mostly at work for taking quick notes and drawing diagrams or when heading out to the store with a list.  the device will auto detect when the stylus is out and you'll see a tiny cursor on the screen that tracks to the point of the stylus when the tip is hovered over the glass.  it works also with a film protector in place.  the notes app that comes with the phone is really cool and works great with the stylus.  it can convert your handwriting to real text and also your diagrams to straight lines and perfect geometric objects.  I have not had the need for a SD card.  don't use it as a remote control or NFC.  I mostly wanted something with a nice big screen with great battery life.  this thing is phenomenal in both those regards and super fast too.

My wife picked one up a couple of months ago and absolutely loves it.  Really slick piece and a wonderful interface once you get used to it.  Tons of flexibility.  After playing with it for a while, it was enough to get me to not upgrade from an iphone 4 to a 5 and instead go to the Galaxy S3 phone.

Ugh, I hate acronyms.  What's "NFC"?

"Any good apps" means different things to different people.  I have a friend with an Android, and he has 200+ apps.  Tons of games, stories for kids, etc.  I basically have zero for my Android.  I do have the SqueezeBox app (free), which I use to control my SqueezeBoxes.  You get Android apps, and if you want, Apps from Amazon.  That's a lot of apps.

NFC is "near field communication." Phones can send stuff to each other by tapping them or something. I haven't been able to make it work on ours. (Not Notes).

I played with one today. How do you get to the list of running apps? I just couldn't find it anywhere.

Do you mean the installed apps in the app drawer?

No, on a Nexus there is a button to the right of the home button that lists the currently running apps. You can then close them by swiping them left or right.

Just press and hold the home button. The list of programs running will appear.

Cheers...

cool, never saw that before.  I don't think that is a list of running programs per say, only a list of the last used.

My understanding is that the Nexus 4 (out of stock in the US) is the 'pure' Android phone that Google designed, Also, Nexus should now be 4.2.1 vs. an earlier version of Jelly Bean.

The Samsung phones have more of a Samsung skin, so they may behave a little differently in the details.

Will the Nexus 4 ever get back in stock in the US? Or will it be the Nexus 5? I wonder.
