Replacing a battery in a Timex Watch
« on: 31 Dec 2012, 12:56 am »
My wife's Timex Marathon watch needs a new battery. I removed the back cover but there is a strap across the top of the battery that I can't figure out how to remove. Anyone now how to do it? I tried Googling it but couldn't find anything relevant to this particular model.

Dunno.  Does the battery slide out from under the strap?

Worst case, any jeweler can do it.  Even a sales lady at Wally World, I expect.

I'd be shocked if the battery slides out because there's no place for it to slide. It drops into the hole for it as best I can tell.

Walmart is an interesting choice. I am going to call them and see what they say.

A jeweler should be able to do it but it's going to cost me 90% of the cost of a new watch.

I think it's a Timex Marathon T5D681. Here's a link to a picture of it.

Here's a shot of the open back with the sticker pulled off.

$15 for a battery replacement is a good deal. I'll have to call around. The store near my place of employment is $25. I paid $30 for the watch for my wife.

Looks to me like the ends of the strap snap on those little studs.  Maybe pry one end off carefully?

Thanks thunderbrick (and everyone else). I unsuccessfully tried prying it off before I started this thread but your post encouraged me to go back and give it a second try. Success! The watch is now working again.
