Another Apple Newbie

For Christmas, my daughter got a new Macbook, and I got her 4 year old hand me down.

It is a 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo with 2GB RAM and a 250 GB hard drive currently running OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).

I am thinking of increasing RAM to 4 GB, and upgrading the OS to Mountain Lion, since both are fairly cheap upgrades.

I have been trying different music players, COG, Fidelia, Vox, Amarra and of course iTunes.
Right now, I like Vox and Fidelia best.

I am hooking it up though USB to a Pupdac

I have a USB isolator using a linear voltage reg to power the pupdac.

Pupdac is directly driving either TDK BA200 IEMs or the JVC HA-S400 http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=112485.0

I compared the Macbook using VOX and Fidelia this morning to my Dell Latitude using Foobar, and liked the Macbook better, Dell seemed a little veiled in the comparison.

I am also planning to buy a IFI Audio iDAC, and see how I like that

Any other suggestions for things to try?

Randy

I would recommend that for player software you give both Pure Music and Audivana+ a try....

When I get my new iDAC I was planning to do those trials, I don't want to use up my trial period now.

BTW, I updated the OS to mountain lion but I haven't tried to see if I can tell a difference.
