Even though though Duke was the student, they don't sound similar IMO.  Not at all to my ears.

More, please.   :D  Specific models?  I've heard so many of Duke's I forgot the names...not every one was as stellar as the other, as is normally the case.

Amphion comments?  (My mains are active high-passed crossed, 2nd order @ 80 Hz)...darn it's hard to type with a big Ragdoll cat on your lap..

I heard the Dream Makers way before I heard the Abbeys.  Rather then me attempting to tell you why I liked the Abbeys better lets just say I purchased one and not the other.  Now, that being said, Duke is first class and that reason alone is enough to put them over the edge on his side.  That's understandale though.   :thumb:

By no means am I saying that Duke's speakers aren't good.  You need to listen for yourself.

Were the relative setup qualities similar, DM vs. Abbeys?  Boy, that speaks volumes about Abbeys considering my DM experience!  Still waiting to find Abby criticism, and I searched hard.  Also, never seen any Geddes speakers being "recycled," which speaks just as loudly (no pun intended).

Which model did mgalusha buy?  Jason, what can I do to convince you to audition my VDA with those puppies?  It will take all of a 30 minutes.  After living with VDA and direct A-B test several times vs. regular monopole (only the FFM/front firing monitor) I can not imagine listening to a mono pole again under any circumstance (nor any other radiation pattern and I've heard/studied them all including Toole's 65-degreee theory).

As soon as I perform SPL comparisons in order to adjust levels for same playing field, I plan to compare the relative merits of my VDA vs. Trinaural to determine which is superior, IOW which one provides more performance than the other.  As of now, I'd never give up either, but it would help advise persons re. preferred upgrade sequence.  The two combined (Trinaural and VDA...six front main speakers, two per each L/C/R channel) provide unprecedented density and spatial effects, including Kimber's never again displayed iso-mic with eight SL stats and the best MBL show setups.

After looking closely at Geddes' designs (again), his wave guide shape still seems unique.  The closest I've heard to Geddes' is AudioKinesis, who makes some of the best speakers I've heard (Geddes and LeJeune worked together).  I can only surmise both their designs share unique, specific, high performance attributes.

Geddes' and AK designs share classic-sized mid bass (12"-15") + similar diameter wave guided compression drivers, resulting in much wider enclosures than high-end styling trend.  The high-end has almost "universal" faith in the creed that the best spatial effects require the narrowest enclosures...combined with styling trends promoting thinner is more attractive.

Personally I lean heavily now toward the Geddes/AK camp, and am looking forward to hearing AKs latest offerings at the earliest opportunity.  I suspect I'm not the only member here who elevates function well above cosmetic appeal.

Lipinski's L-505 also caught my eye lately, but certainly Lipinski's "normal" ring radiator tweeter would severely limit dynamics vs. a wave guided compression driver, especially with a slow crossover slope as Lipinski advertises.  The L-505's dual symmetrical mid bass improves focus and dynamics below the treble, but this does nothing to improve treble dynamic range.  Funny that they market it as a studio monitor, considering the dynamic range studios normally require.

What do you think about the Aether Audio stuff by comparison? Seems that guy is on the slow comeback.

First he gets people the speakers he owes them, then he may consider taking new orders later in the year.

I love my SP Tech Minis. I went floorstander (Von Schewiekert VR-4), but haven't let myself part with the Minis. Even though I currently lack a good place for them.

In general, the front baffle and woofer unit are not as wide as Geddes and Audiokinesis, as best I can tell. Not sure about the other wave guides discussed here, the SP Minis cross over at about 800Hz. But I have listened to neither of the others, so can't make a real comparison.

Thanks.  Blah blah blah.  I'll wait for the data and all the customers that are waiting for their speakers to get them.

Or Duke or Dr. Geddes who have real Waveguides.  Although you may wait some time, you do get them.  His wait times have gotten much quicker though from what I hear.

Yeah, and you, JT, having Geddes pretty much puts that type at the top of my list. Was just curious about an Aether/Geddes vs situation.

I'd be surprised if there weren't some comparison on AC somewhere between Aether/SP Tech and Geddes.

Just be warned...there are a few companies that claim they use a WG and although they may function like one doesn't mean that they are a true WG that's giving all the benefit of one.

Read the link above and all the Geddes and Toole papers.  After that, listen to them.  Then you may toss those MMG's.   :rotflmao:

Maybe so!

I never plan on staying in one place in this hobby. I gotta lotta years left before "last speakers", just like you Jason.

Although I'll always keep these Maggies. They would look good just as knick knacks.
