Cleaning the rca jacks on cables and gear.

Anybody ever use a 4.5in angle grinder to clean rca connects on gear and cables? If so what disc would you use, or is this not recommended?

Its sound funny but there are softer discs that might work. . It would totally work but would it damage?

Don't you think a Dremel tool might be more appropriate?

Caig Deoxit  Contact resistance is a function of how much surface area is devoted to the electrical connection.
Hopefully the surface finish on the contact areas of our RCA plugs is close to a mirror finish. If you clean this surface with an abrasive of any kind you risk damaging the finish and greatly increasing the contact resistance. If the surface is plated with a corrosion resistant metal and you scratch surface metal and expose the brass you now have a potential for corrosion where none existed before.

Be gentle, no power tools. As Scotty said, I use Caig red then gold with microfiber cloths.

I think Dremel you can get jewelry attachments which would make it good. I guess i am just trying to mimic a good jewelry polish.

Most RCA are plated. You really do not want to damage the plating surface. Any powered device is going to be too harsh to clean the surfaces.
The other suggestions are better. Caig deoxit is good. so is Caig ProGold.
Just remember a little is good, a lot os NOT good.
Wipe off the connectors after applying the fluid. All that is needed is a ultra thin molecular layer. If you can easily see it or feel it, you left on too much..

The hardest part to cleaning a male RCA is how to get inside the barrel. Here's what I do, get a pipe cleaner and make a few turns around something roughly the diameter of the center pin on the RCA. Dip that into isopropyl alcohol and swab it in circles around that center pin. Cleans the pin and the inside of the barrel at the same time.

You can use another pipe cleaner sprayed with Caig if you want to after it has dried.

These Signet RCA cleaning tools work well together with a little Caig stuff for a whopping $3 each.

I'll second those. Pipe cleaners are a good choice as well.

I use Kontak cleaner - leaves no residue - no oil, no silver - nothing
https://www.gcaudio.com/cgi-bin/store/showProduct.cgi?id=26

You can use Q-tips (one with paper, not plastic, wand) and remove excessive cotton -so it is just the right thickness for both male and female RCA connectors

Those look great, I'm going to try them.  I've been using a brush like this, not sure where I got it, but this pic is from Music Direct, $2.  But I've been meaning to try the Signet tools, I just never get around to ordering them.

I think my brush came in this very kit.  It's so long ago that the foam brushes included have deteriorated and only the bristle brush remains.

I've also used the Q-tip with the cotton mostly removed, works okay, but less satisfactory than the dedicated tools.
