Behringer ULTRAMATCH PRO SRC2496
« on: 9 Dec 2012, 10:43 pm »
Hi. Has anyone had experience using the Behringer ULTRAMATCH PRO SRC2496 sample rate converter
between a CD transport and Dac in their home audio system?
If you have, I would love to know your opinions of the improvements/disappointments.

Thanks,
Steve

I don't personally use one, but there are some guys using it with their Dspeaker Dual Core 2.0"s with great success. The Dual Core only has optical SPDIF input and the Ultramatch can be used as a coax to optical adaptor as well as an upsampler.

Here is a portion of an email that I received from a guy using an Ultramatch:

"It is a very good DAC and the DSP room correction is brilliant (at least in my room). I overcame the limited digital input (single toslink) issue by using a Behringer SRC 2496 ultramatch pro (a real audio bargain although a bit ugly). It has three digital inputs (optical, RCA and aes/ebu). This works very well as an upsampler and I run my Teac VRDS 10 via an active digital RCA cable into it. In my opinion the upsampling improves the sound and the behringer allows me to plug my USB interface into the system via the optical input for HiRes computer audio (i don't use the usb input on the dspeaker)."

Here is an article from the Lampizator site on his take and upgrades to the Utramatch.

Not sure if you are into DIY, but it is a very good read.

Enjoy  :D

I use one in front of a Behringer DEQ2496, as a source selector and upsampler, and for my FM tuner, a ADC. The upsampling seems to give the digital output of my old Squeezebox Classic a little more resolution. I use a short AES/EBU digital cable between the two Behrs (from there it goes to a Monarchy DIP, then a Channel Island DAC). Added the SRC last spring, so far it's been fine.

I would recommend if you are going to place this in front of your DAC, try the different outputs to see if any generates extra noise. I got the best results using a Wireworld Supernova 6 optical on the output of the DEQ.
