Little Dot Mk.III as a Pre-Amp...???
« on: 8 Dec 2012, 02:09 am »
I bought a Little Dot Mk.III a couple of months ago and have been very happy with it as a headphone amp.  Recently I've been contemplating using it as a pre-amp and a headphone amp.  Is there anything special I have to do other than running a pair of I/C's from the Little Dot's output to my amp's inputs?  Will inserting my headphones into the LD's headphone jack "cut off" the output to my amp... or do you have to disconnect the I/C's between the LD & amp in order to listen to just the headphones?

Please advise.
Thanks!

Not sure about the LD III. I have run my LD VI as a preamp and headphone amp simultaneously, with ICs going to the amp at all times (whether or not the headphones are plugged in). But since you are potentially risking your equipment if something isn't kosher here, I'd contact Little Dot on this. I think I asked about using my VI as a headphone amp and preamp with both headphones and ICs to an amp plugged in simultaneously over on the Little Dot forums.

Thanks, Roscoeiii.  I asked Little Dot, their reply was read the user guide.  (It doesn't specify exactly what I'm asking here.)  I also posed the same question on Head-Fi without a single response yet!?!?  Hopefully, I'll find out from someone who knows because you're right... it' not worth risking any of my equipment doing something incorrectly.

Did you ask via e-mail or on their discussion boards? If not the board, maybe put something up there.

I think you can these amps have jumpers that let u change them for different configurations, head-fi should give u answears, do a search there if you havnt already.
