Custom SAS 7a preamp for sale SOLD!!!
« on: 6 Dec 2012, 07:00 pm »

Well, I thought I'd never do this, but here I am:   I had Steve build me a 7a with two upgrades:  Jena labs wiring throughout and a HT bypass switch as well.  I used it for a couple of years in a Cornwall, SAS, Audio Research system and it sounds glorious.  BUT...the realities of imminent retirement dictate downsizing and the Audio Research amp and the Cornwalls are gone.  I won't have room for the third, audio only system when I downsize so here's the last piece.

Black body with silver knobs as well as the three position "frequency profile" switch on the back and a switch for changing the power polarity.  I am located north of Rockford, Illinois and will sell for $550 shipped in the continental US.  If Paypal is preferred...add 3%.  Will discount a bit for local pickup.
Send a PM for pictures or questions.
Hibuck....

I've owned the same preamp, before getting a great deal on a SAS 10A.   The 7A is amazing, and it only has one volume control, which is a plus for many people who don't want to mess with the dual mono volume controls.  It also uses inexpensive tubes and the tubes last a long time in this design.

To anyone looking, this is a great design and the price is very fair.  It's lower than the kit price when this was available as a kit.  I've compared this preamp to more expensive models and it held its own very well.   It has the transparency and soundstage SAS is known for, and is very quiet.  Plus, the Jena Labs cable is a nice upgrade.

Good luck with the sale.

Don,
If you get it, you should try some Genelex Gold Lion tubes.  They are quiet, long lasting and relatively inexpensive.   The stock JJ's also sound very good.  The 7A is a real bargain. Let us know what you think after you test it out.

Cheers

Don
P.s. what tubes does the preamp use?

E88cc, same as 6dj8.  Lots of great tubes of this variety available and the stock JJ's sound great.  Also, Steve, the guy who runs SAS is a great guy.  His interconnects are the best I have tried in my system and they are relatively inexpensive.

I don't know the seller and can't help you on that front.  Good luck, I hope you get it.

This is an insanely good deal.   Also, my SAS preamp sounds amazing with my NCore amp.  A couple of RCA to XLR converters and you are good to go.  The 7A is extremely detailed, and the tubes provide the perfect amound of weight to the presentation.   If I had a second system, I would snap this up immediately at the asking price and I do not know the seller.

I hope the person who purchases this will do a detailed review.  SAS preamps are not pretty on the outside but they are very well designed and wonderful performers.
