Sennheiser Amperiors and ....
« on: 5 Dec 2012, 11:37 pm »
I was over on head-fi last weekend and managed to get a new pair of Sennheiser Amperiors-Silver ones. They arrived today and I've been wearing them pretty much solid for the past 4 hours with no discomfort and I'm enjoying them immensely. These are the most toe tapinist, headbobbing musical cans I've heard in a long, long time. Clear, crisp and extremely dynamic so far are my first impressions, I'm very happy with the sound out of the box.

One thing they come with are interchangeable cords with or without volume controls. I tried both and feel like I'm hearing the best of these on ears without the volume control. I didn't think I would notice a difference but I did, just a touch cleare without the volume unit attached. More later....

Some UE500 came in today also but I haven't really listened to them seriously yet, the build quality is less then other UE products I've had in the past, cable is thin stiffish ribbon type and the ear pieces are just not as precisely made as others. They sound fine so far though so thats not an issue, again more to come!
I love new toys!!!!!! :thumb: :thumb:

New toys are always fun :D

One cool aspect of cans is that they are relatively cheap for the hifi world, so it is easier to experiment and try new things.
I have been on a buying spree myself lately, trying to control myself now though.

Having said that, when my budget recovers, I was thinking about trying to get my hands on a Hifiman 5le or 500.
Wondering how the 5le compares to your new Senn Amps?

I have 5LE's and the Senns are a different animal all together. The 5LE's are the smoothest phones I've heard to date. These are just more dynamic, which is probably not the right word to use. I was tappin my toe, and really got into the music with the Senns. The 5LE's are awesome also.....very different sound flavors. They need more break in time as I understand it (the Amperiors), I've read several reviews that say at 100 hours they stop changing so we'll see if I hear similar stuff........

I just spent the last hour or so using the UE500's for a movie....LOL, they sound great also so far....a good day in Ed-phone land!!!

UPDATE: These Amperiors feel great, sound great are my new favorites. The UE500's sound very, very similar as it turns out, both new toys are the perfect fit and can be used with anything I own that has a headphone jack so I'm very happy!!!

Many say they sound much like their brothers the HD-25s but I think they sound much better. What do you guys think?

ive tested it with iphone 4, the amperiors abit rough, although it was relatively new unit in the showroom.

i got the momentum instead, it still gives me pleasant surprise from time to time for how it sounded great for any kinds of music.

Henry218(or whoever),

Since you've brought the Senn Momentum up, are they actually "over the ear" cans as opposed to "on the ear" like the Amperiors & the Beyerdynamic DT 1350s ? If I ever decide to go back to portable audio (w/ a player that does'nt use iTunes for my rips)(maybe iBasso DX100 or HiFiman 801) the Momentums are on my short list of HPs to audition. The DT1350s do sound amazing but the comfort level was a no go after 20mins or so for me.

its definitely on the ear, unless u got very small ear :d

its very comfortable, especially after using it more than 100hrs.

to be brief, the sound signature of momentum is similar to HD650 with more bass, means go lower and more presence
