Question about power supply caps
« on: 1 Dec 2012, 01:50 am »
Hi

I'm building a amp and already have four of 63V 10,000uF caps that I will use.  I need to buy four more for the amp but I want to increase the total capacitance.
As the BOM only requires the caps to be 40V - is it OK to buy four more (of the same make/type) but at 40V 33,000uF and mix these (equally between channels) with the 63V 10,000uF I've already got?
I'm thinking it will be OK but wanted to check.

Thanks

Well probably, the manufactures do add a safety factor.  But you will always have that small nagging doubt and they may not last as long as the 63V units.

Thanks for the reply.  The BOM has the specified that the caps are 40V only so the ones I'm looking at (to buy) should be OK.
