Anyone want XM? Here's a HUGE DEAL!

All:
I got XM for Christmas, and I love it. You can read more about that on my post in the Music Circle. Just wanted to let you know that if you are at all interested in XM, there is a massive deal going on right now! It's kind of on the down-low, but that is because it is such a killer deal.
Here's the deal. . .
Delphi SkyFi receiver, AND a home, or car kit for $99 + $8 shipping!
Right now at Best Buy they are $129 + $69 for the home or car kit which you MUST have to operate the radio. Best Buy has a $50 coupon, but this deal whips that bad.
If anyone wants to get in on the deal, mail me and I will send you the link. I don't want to post it here b/c there is a specific e-mail address you must use to sign up to get the deal. It's not my e-mail, but I got it from a good source who doesn't want it given out.
Just thought I'd pass this along b/c there really is some good music on there, even if it is not up to CD standard sound for most of us. . .
You can even get Wayne to make you a cable for it! I am going to do that right away!

I'm sure people will crack it. For $10 a month though, the live stuff alone is worth it for me.

I can see why some people would like it. I admit that even I would like it sometimes, but I won't be getting it.
It used to be interesting to drive around the country and hear the differences in local radio. Since industry deregulation that was supposed to foster competition, there has been less and less of it. Now, when I drive out of one radio 'market' into another, I can't tell the difference between a "hot" this and a "Z" that. College radio only helps so much, since a lot of it is nationally syndicated NPR. At least there still is some good college radio.
The last thing I want is to hear more of the same garbage (commercials or not) when I drive.
Bring back locally originated programming on radio, warts and all, and I'll be happy.
Make a satalite broadcast radio service that carries
local
programming from various markets so it could be heard anywhere, rather than the same programming to all markets, and I'll sign up!

Ahh, but you live in Boston. You also live near the baddest colleges in the US. I live in Greensboro. . . 'nuff said. hehe
Seriously, there are NO good stations here. There is a decent college station, but I have to sit in the car to get it. I had an Audioprism antenna that wouldn't even pick it up inside. . .
You're lucky to live near all that good music. . . for free. hehe

You used to be able to listen to our fine college stations on the web until the RIAA/CARP stepped in to ruin all the fun. There's info on that on the link in my signature if you're curious about why webcasting went 'poof' in a lot of places.
But if you're in Boston, manually tune (don't scan) the left of the dial for all kinds of fun.
1670AM (very small range) and
http://www.abfreeradio.org
is not as scared of CARP. We're very very small. We're the nation's only non-profit public access AM radio station (that we know of).
Listen to us on the web. WARNING: not audiophile quality.
If in NYC/NJ try 91.1 WFMU FM based out of Jersey City. They were once the Upsala College station (in name only really) and after Upsala went under the board just bought they license real cheap...so they continue doing the same old thing. They webcast also.
http://www.wfmu.org
Many famous NYC DJ's got their start on 'FMU. I'm not talking about the shock jocks, I'm talking about the really brilliant ones who left the commercial stations after it all went to sh*t and now some work at WFUV- the Fordham U station in NYC. Go figure.

Hantra,
Can you get WNCW? a public radio station @ 88.7 FM, they play a great mix of music from bluegrass to Zappa. You may just be on the eastern edge of their broadcast range.

WNCW is also on the web @ WNCW.org if you can get that into your system. I'm in the same boat though. I get about two radio stations here in the house, so it's not even worth having a tuner. Perhaps sat. radio will be the way for me in the future, but for now I can use DirectTV.

death to digital radio!
what little goodness is left on fm will be ruined by this monopolistic bullshit. and, the digital subcarrier ruins the audio quality of the analog broadcast.
one local station here has been using a digital test subcarrier; their station engineer recently told me it will be gone in a month or two, as they have no use for this technology - too expensive, too many technical limitations, shitty sound quality. i can't wait - it will allow me one more decent station for critical listening - right now, it's only good for background music, due to the treble distortion induced by the digital subcarrier. the engineer said he has gotten many complaints about it - mostly from people w/good-quality tuners - if ya have a shitty tuna, ya won't hear the grunge...
for info on how to get good sound from a tuna on the cheap, that will rival yer cd/winyl playback system, check out these two sites:
www.geocities.com/tunerinfo
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FMtuners/
doug s., tuna addict (wanna buy a killer tuna, on the cheap?

Yeah, what Doug said...
I can't believe that such a large portion of the population is either deaf or thinks crap is good sound only because they never heard better.
Rich folks are buying either Bose or B&O, while us poor folks (or maybe I just speak for myself) are spending way too large a percentage of our incomes on stuff that outclasses popular brands ten-fold.
It's nice to know there are still some folks who won't accept mediocrity for their hard earned cash.
Also, like Doug said and what I said earlier in this thread, it's not just about the sound. It's about the content. Fewer folks are deciding what we hear by the day it seems, with more and more money at stake.
I hope it all comes crashing down and we revert back to some sort of radio chaos. At least that'll be interesting. I'd feel sorry for people losing jobs, but I'd love to see Clear Channel pull an Enron and go by-by.
