Hi all,

I currently have a Nevo S70 remote control that needs to be replaced.

As a background all of my kit (SP3, BDP, Oppo 93, CD player) is in a vented cupboard and therefore I need a do-it-all remote to control my system.

I am interested in what remote controls you fellow enthusiast use, ie RTI, IPAD, 4Control, Creston etc and would you recommend it ?

Thank you.

I use a Logitech Harmony 895 with the RF blaster for all my kit, I absolutely love it, very simple to set up and modify, it just works. I have actually bought a second one, unused in my cupboard, such that if this one fails I have a back-up.

I also use my iPad/iPods to control the BDP1, hopefully we will see a proper iPad app for the SP3/BDP some time...

Cheers

I have a Logitech Harmony One in the main system.  I use an old Logitech 885 in the basement system and I believe I have a 700 in the bedroom system.  Costco is blowing out Harmony Ones ($109.99), so I picked up another to have.  I may change my mind after I move in 15 months or so, but I have places to use all the remotes and find it easy to use, easy to set-up and I don't want to go through a complicated or time consuming set-up process as I have done in the past.

I am using a Philips pronto TSU-9600
absolutely love this remote.....can make my own screens....backdrops, buttons, anything....even use photos
It takes a little  to learn the programming....but if I can do it anyone can
Unfortunately if what I've heard is true....Philips has discontinued the pronto line

I just tossed my harmony remote, a lot of folks rave about it, and that's why i got it, but never really worked well in my setup and got tired of charging the darn thing every few weeks.    Sadly there's probably not a better almost-an-all-in-one remote.    One annoyance, you need an email address per harmony remote.  Another annoyance, they wouldn't add a few IR codes that's not found on the standard remote for my TV that would have made it a bit more usable.

Do you guys rate using the IPAD with software such as Demopad, Irule etc as a remote control or is just a gimmick that us utterly useless and a proper all in one remote is the better option??

I loved my Pronto remotes when I had them (I owned three).  I loved you could customize it, but it takes much more time than the Harmony.

I tried the peel remote out, I had high hopes for it since it listed the shows that were on and just sounded easier to use, but really ended up being a waste of money.    They had no desires to be the "all-in-one" remote, but more of a channel guide.

I did demo the Naim Uniti last night and felt that they were on the right track for their ipad app (n-stream).  Full controls on the preamp, tuner, internet radio, music upnp (streamer) player, this model didn't have the CD built in but assume that will work nicely as well.   I hope their next step is to add an IR transmitter so it can control other devices through that app.

I have mixed thoughts about control4, but I think the dealer went overboard having every device possible under it's control.

I have about 10 devices I control using each remote (Preamp, projector, TV, frame rate converter, STB,
projection screen, overhead fan and lamp, DVD player, streamer, music player).

I have used Philips Prontos and still do. When they were discontinued, I bought spares on eBay. The Prontos control the Squeezebox player through wifi, Bryston SP3 through RS232, the projection screen through relay outputs, Oppo throught RS232, etc.

For me, hardware buttons to control volume, mute and switch channels are a must (menu navigation nice but perhaps not a must). The ability to instantly use is important (so Ipad type "unlock" screen is out).

I have not found anything this powerful in a relatively easy to use package. Too bad Philips ditched the entire Pronto line.
