Really good Live recordings

Sorry, that would be ArkivMusic.com or go on to Amazon.com & do a search in music for the sets. (Arkiv is the better choice for Classical though as it has a "deep" database of most of the better labels (Albany,Chandos,Channel Classics,Lyrita,Delos,Bis,Hyperion, etc.)

I would'nt find it unusual if Arkiv were to start emailing me for my orders. A great resource in this age of disappearing retail music stores.

A few DVDs come to mind right off -

If you like jazz this should blow you away. An amazingly well recorded show, with music to match.

Another for the jazz fan. Live from Montreaux, very well recorded given the performance date of 1976.

For the rock/blues fan, this is a winner. The original release was pretty good, so if this remaster lives up to the hype it should be stellar. Better than the Live at Cork DVD I have, though that's not bad.

More jazz, and a bargain to boot. Comes with both CD & DVD for $20.00. A must for Auger fans.

I've never heard that Kinks one, I'll have to get it.
I did listen to the Vevel 180gm One For The Road yesterday which is a fun album and brought back good memories of seeing the Kinks at the Jersey Shore every summer.
The Velvel is better than the original pressing if anyone is interested.

This may not be for everyone but Billy The Mountain by The Mothers is well recorded.
I lent a copy to a coworker who listened to about 5 minutes and gave it back to me!

The Mothership Returns- Return To Forever (Eagle Records). This is a new reunion disc if you didn't know. At least I think it's new. The Lonewolfny posted this not long ago and I bought it. The sound is exceptional. Violinist Jean Luc Ponty replaces guitarist Al Dimiola from the original group.

Here in California, there is radio station KFOG 97.7 in San Jose. They have a sister station in San Francisco at 104.5

Anyway, every year about this time they release a CD named Live From The Archives. It's all great live music that is fantastically recorded and mastered, that has been donated to KFOG by various artists. The typical artist featured has never released a live album. KFOG donates the proceeds of each year's sales to local Bay Area food banks.

I live in Southern California, so buying these discs each year doesn't do much for the local folks, but that's not the point. The music is live, and it's very good. Here is a link to this year's release.

"International Guitar Night Two" recorded live at a concert hall in Alberta, Canada, I think w/o looking at the jacket (could be Vancouver) by someone we know and whose work is available still, the cat who just posted above . . Russell Dawkins. Russell has also recorded live in Greece, etc. Don't know about the availability of that recording and or any of his others but the aforementioned IGN recordings are works of the recording art. You should hear these, there were two. Check your sources and see if one or both, etc, are available.

Thanks, Chris. Yer a lighting bolt of goodness and I know you recognize the quality of the music being played, foremost as a player, and the realness of the recording as a seasoned listener. Kudos to Russell for the latter. If you didn't agree you wouldn't be commenting.

does a great job with Buddy.
