Really good Live recordings

I know many of you, like me, have bought some live DVD or CD recordings but to find out that the audio is bad and you
do not listen to them. What are some good Live DVD,or,CD recordings that you would recommend to a friend?

One of mine is Larry Carlton and Steve Lukather Band.

I use The YellowJackets "Live Wires" as a demo quite often and it is a very nice live recording.

Tricky because a lot of live recordings with high SQ have been fooled with to the point where they aren't really "live" anymore...

Check out Mapleshade's catalog at their site. Most of the music is recorded live in the owner's parlor but w/o an audience altho a few are with an audience and all sound very good. Clear, immediate, and uncompressed.

I have to agree with the replies so far. Unfortunately most live recordings are 'Pro-Tooled' to death in the mastering process just as studio recordings are. This all ties in to the petition post in the neighboring thread. I also like the Mapleshade recording and find them very natural. There is a good reason for that. That reason is because they are natural. Good recordings were left as good recordings and not dumbed down in the mastering process to meet some artificial benchmark to sound good on an iPhone.

The Mapleshade recordings helped me to set proper benchmarks for my own recordings.

Bill Withers - Live at Carnegie Hall
Aretha Franklin - Aretha Live at Fillmore West

I'm not unsure if the recordings have the technical merits you're after, but they've certainly got a great presence that moves you.

Rolling Stones - Get Yer Ya Ya's Out
Neil Young - Live At Massey Hall
Frank Zappa - You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore (Volumes 1-6)
Zappa - Live In New York
Hot Tuna - First Pull Up, Then Pull Down
Hot Tuna - Double Dose (the acoustic side is really good)

Here are 2 that are rarely out of rotation in my system:

Dire Sraits - Live at the BBC. It is not hard to find but you have to be looking for it. Redbook CD. Recorded before the band was accepted in the UK and US. If you don't like this band, you will still appreciate the performance. If you like the band, you will thank me.

Hugh Masekela - Hope. Recorded live at Blues Alley, DC. Analogue Productions SACD. There is an AP 45 RPM vinyl version but I have a hard time believing it could sound better than the SACD.

WireNut - I agree some live recordings are not quite up to expectation and becomes frustrating as a consumer. I find it rather disappointing with the technology the engineers have today some efforts actaully do come up lame. Really, it's what these guys do...don't they know what's good audio and what's bad? I'm open for someone to explain it to me. That being said, here are my two up for top honors of what I own:

Alison Krauss & Pink Floyd's Pulse.

That one sounds good on Redbook, never mind SACD! I have both. Nice when the worlds come together - a great piece of work musically that also satisfies our audiophile side. I'd second your recommendation on Hope for sure !

Allman Brothers "Fillmore East": Way ahead of most live recordings of the era in terms of SQ, certainly of most rock/blues live recordings

Anthology of the RCO live box sets - Vol.5 or Vol. 6 (vol 6 in particular has some of the most phenomenally sounding recordings of masterworks orchestral you are likely to hear ... Absolutely superb!!! If you are looking for a "Classsical" collection save yourself some time & effort & pick up both sets (Arkiv (who I like to support) or Amazon) before they go out of print.
