DIY Bits and Pieces in Melbourne
« on: 16 Jun 2004, 11:06 pm »
Anyone have any idea where I can buy bits and pieces for DIY work.  The bits and pieces I'd like to be able to buy include quality phono plus (cardas etc), nylon mesh to encase cables, quality fine silver wires on the reel, OFC copper wires, teflon tubing etc etc etc?  The usual suspects - Jaycar, Radio Parts, Dick Smith, Tandy - simply do not supply these types of more esoteric kit.

Thanks in advance

You could try Soundlabs in Sydney. They have some interesting stuff. I bought a DACT selector switch and some silver solder from him yesterday.
Allow some time, he will talk for ages, which I find a good thing.

There are also a lot of Aussie people on the AKSA thread (Aspen Amplifiers). We seem to be a helpful bunch.

RS components  is in south melbourne they have a few bits and pieces
(inc. teflon tubing- but all very small gauges)

I bought nylon braided Mesh tubing from AIM 4 capital dr. in dandenong (50m roll for around $50 bucks) www.isola.com.au ph.9706 9770

is another place for Plugs and cables (in preston)

but apart from soundlabs there isn't much else in AUSTRALIA that deals with more exotic stuff. But james from soundlabs- melbourne is pretty good help.
