Wow; bear with me...as this just happened today, and I'm still kind of in shock/mourning.
I'm a very fussy, anal retentive audiophile; is there any other kind? Point is, I'm meticulous with my gear. Always handled carefully, anything with wood (like speakers) gets handled with the white gloves (much to my wife's amusement); always mind speaker-cables and ICs, so as not to scratch anything. When I buy used, I look for stuff in very good shape; and if I ever sell it, it goes out in as good a shape as it came in.
So it pains me to recount this, but today...as I was packing up a massive power-amp I just sold...I had a mishap with one of these P-3s I was just getting ready to list. As my friend said...it's almost comical; you know...if it hadn't happened to you: I was packing-up a McCormack DNA-225. I lift the beast, to box it...and the amp-stand sticks to the bottom. Amp-stand proceeds to fall off at the absolute wrong time, clangs into the door. Door clangs into P-3 on temporarily and precariously-placed speaker stand; P-3 falls to the floor! Cursing and crying ensues.
I guess it could have been worse. As you see from the pics below, it's pretty minimal...and it did happen on the
backside. I feared the worse, but they're hooked up in a little Office system as I write this...and they
sound fine; as good as ever. Timing was awful, as I just agreed to an upgrade on 7-ES-3s...and as I said, these were about to hit the auction blocks.
I'm new to Harbeths, as I've been a dyed-in-the-wool Dynaudio man for the past 6 years or so. I tried these for the start of a small, Office system and liked them so much...I decided to go to the bigger model, in an effort to down-size my main rig (replacing the world-class Dynaudio Confidence C1 Signatures in Bordeaux Gloss finish; also for sale elsewhere btw). I'm told newly used P-3 ESR 30/SEs fetch about $1650 on the used market. I was
originally looking to get about $1400 for this pair; now...who knows?
Like I said...I am
entirely unfamiliar with selling damaged gear (slight or not); so I don't know what to expect.
I'll answer any questions, provide additional pics as requested (these are nice and huge...not trying to
hide anything, and I tried to capture the damage as best I could. For the record...upon further inspection...it's even less severe than initially expected. The dent is about 4" from the back, bottom of the speaker...but it doesn't extend all the way to the base. In fact, it's only indented about 1" total...then the corner sharpens back out, and there's a little damage at the corner-point. I'll snap a pic, with something to help with scale in a bit)...and hear all reasonable offers.
If they don't fetch a satisfactory amount...I guess I'll just keep an Office system after all.
