I have an inexplicable problem:
Connecting AQ comet biwire cables to Bryston B135 my PSB Synchrony II Floor Standing speakers have excellent deep bass..After between 1 hour & 3 days somehow the lower octive put out from speakers changed and is no longer satisfying, articulate bass. The new sound is bass that has little definition with not much impact..If I reconnect my AQ comet speaker cables which have spades I may or may not reistablish a full musical sound with the correct lower octive intact.
Therefore I have heard my system sound the way I like with a strong foundation in the lower octive but the sound changes over a brief period to dull bass & musicallity.
I've consulted with Bryston,PSB & Audioquest but no one has suggested a cause or solution.
(Assuming they belive me,since they never heard of this issue)
I'm thinking of adding a subwoofer but when my system sounds correct,I don't feel the need for one.

Hi,

That is a strange one - I really do not know what could cause that other than maybe try a different speaker cable ????

I did try another cable
Bass didn't change it was dull
I sent cables to AQ & were checked out
They are $1800 cables
I had B60 & upgraded because thought I didn't have enough watts
Brian@Bryston is kind of annoyed at me since he wasn't able to help along with Mike
If I wasn't a professional musican with expert hearing would doubt conclusions myself
Another words I had this problem with B60 and isn't better with B135

Try switching out the speakers with another from a friend or dealer. It is a pain but, so is hi-end audio some times.

Maybe have the dealer hook it up on his system and see if it reacts the same?

I have a B135 in our soundroom and one in my office and no issues with change over time at all.   When you say change over time do you mean while you are listening or just having it powered on.

PS - Brian mentioned to me that you had someone over and they tested things and all seemed OK?  Also Brian said we checked out the B60 you had previously at Bryston and it appeared to work OK as well?

While I'm listening, the quality of bass is there in the forefront
It could be the very next song and the bass has changed to the background with no more articulation/definition.
This could & does happen at any time while listening
Once it's gone,the quality bass dosn't return
Unless I  reconnect the speaker cables & hear that it's returned (not usually on the first attempt of reconnecting) for another brief time.

Yes to both
MY B60 was found to be working ok
I traded in for B135 with the hope more power would help.
I had someone over to check my setup
He agreed the bass(after playing a test cd) was not right but could not find any problem with equipment or electric

Hi,

OK I spoke to John at Audio Salon and he has your B135 in his store now and says it is working really well.

I would say the problem is elsewhere in your system.

I never felt the Amp was at issue
My question is,what or how can bass quality change as it's doing?
speakers,cables,electric,I'm on the wrong meds?(kidding)

John has my B135 so he could check it out while he lent a different amplifier(musical fidelity)
Same result:
I returned it & await my B135 in a couple days

The voice coil of a loudspeaker changes its impedance as the coil heats up (DC resistance can easily double with temperature) and that could cause the damping factor to shift and cause a change in bass response.

I'm not sure what that means
Damping factor,etc..
If there is a theory
Why hasn't this problem come up with others?
Eveyone I ask says "never heard of bass changing"
Either you have it or don't

Was your suggestion I get different speakers?
Perhaps add a subwoofer

Adding a sub would help by taking the load off the main amplifier but I have not experienced speakers changing their response that much unless they are being driven really loud?

Maybe an intermittant/poor  connection in the woofer section of one of the speakers?
