I received my new Super 3T's almost two weeks ago. My first impressions can be summed up very simply ... wow!
I had owned the 3i (narrow cabinet) for a number of years and very much liked them, but could never get to the point where I fell in love with them. The hang up for me was with the upper vocal range. The 3i's could get carried away and sound a bit honky at times.
The Catch 22 with owning good equipment is that the ability to discern gets better and what would not be bothersome before, becomes a big deal now. I sold the 3i's, but always half regretted it.
Enter the Super 3Ts. They break-in is quick ... hours, not days. Lou is right that the choice of amplifier is not super critical. I am using an Outlaw RR2150 receiver. Works out fine. What seems to affect the sound more though is the quality of the source. Using a Rega Apollo sounds better and smoother with the Super 3Ts, than using the Emotiva ERC-2. It makes sense, the Apollo is a smoother player overall. The Super 3Ts pick up on that. I know it might be break-in related and I did A/B the two players, but I still prefer the Rega/ 3T combination.
Vocals have an in the room presence, classic rock has oomph. As I continue to listen more, I will post my impressions.
Cabinets are pretty as all out.
